May 23 • 2:30pm • Conway, AR

Learn the words of Jesus from a Messianic Jewish perspective. “A Jewish Sermon on the Mount: Exploring the Core Teachings of Jesus from a Hebraic Perspective” introduces the Hebrew idioms, Jewish contexts, and rabbinic methods at work in Jesus’ most famous sermon. Jewish Sermon on the Mount provides a brief introduction to Matthew 5–7 using a new, Hebrew-based translation of the New Testament that allows English readers to see the Hebraisms of the Master’s teaching and the richness of the Hebrew words.

Enjoy a challenging and inspiring look at Jesus’ teachings and the transformative message of the Sermon on the Mount.

See Jewish parallels to Gospel texts and find out why Bible scholars believe the parallels are important for greater understanding.

Discover Hebrew words that are impossible to translate into English and how translators deal with these difficult words. See the words—understand the concepts they represent and expand your understanding of the Bible.

Hear the compelling story and see the New Testament translation of Franz Delitzsch, a nineteenth century Christian Bible-translator considered one the greatest lights of Messiah to the Jewish people.

Learn and see what was so distinctive to Jesus’ teaching in this passage that produced such a response, “the crowd was amazed at his teaching, for he was teaching them as a man of authority, and not like the soferim” (Matthew 7:28–29).

The Hebrew/English Sermon on the Mount

There will be three teachings in a course of 2.5 hours. There will be breaks and time for questions. Everyone attending will receive an extract of Matthew 5–7 from the new Hebrew/English Gospel edition scheduled for release in the fall of 2010. Attendance is free—there will be a donation box on a table for all those that desire to help with the related expense.

FYI - Messianic Arkansas has a new site coming soon. We will hopefully try to launch it in the next week or two. For those of you who have submitted listing requests, I sincerely apologize for not being able to add you yet. I’ve had problems with updates on this site, and therefore am in the process of creating a new one which will make maintaining it much easier.

Also, we will have a new feature where individual congregations will be able to maintain and update their own content at any time and not have to wait on me to make changes.

You will also be able to post events which will be fed into the community calendar and will post the front page as the date for the event draws near.

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know, as I am right in the middle of getting this knocked out.

Many blessings,
-Darren Huckey

Shalom Chaverim (Hello Friends)!

We would like to tell you about our endeavor to have a monthly Shabbat (Sabbath) Service for the wider community of Central Arkansas. We hope to accomplish several goals in doing this. We see this as an opportunity for the following:

to grow in our walk of Torah observance and obedience

to encourage and help one another as we are working to establish and reach out to our respective local communities

to share our knowledge up to this point regarding liturgy

The community-wide Shabbat Service for this month will be May 17th @ 9:30am. Sherwood Bible Church is graciously allowing us to use their facilities. Here is an outline of the order of the service:

*Instructions Regarding Potluck Lunch

If you plan to eat with us, please bring something to contribute. Typically each family brings two items. If you are single, just one item is sufficient. Since we are all at different places in our journey regarding dietary laws and to insure we will all be able to have table fellowship with clear consciences, we have provided some helpful guidelines below to take into consideration:

Please only bring Biblically clean meats (see Lev. 11); that of course includes no products containing pork, shellfish, or catfish. The typical meats most of us eat are beef, chicken, turkey, deer, and once in a while, bison (no one has brought any lamb, goat or giraffe yet).

There are some folks who only eat meat that has a kosher certification. So if they pass by your dish, please don’t be offended.

We do not typically separate meat and dairy, but we will clearly label food items. If there are any questions, please feel free to ask us.

A sneaky ingredient that renders a product unclean is gelatin. Gelatin is found in, of course, Jell-O ® gelatin, marshmallows, yogurts and some cereals. Check the list of ingredients if you suspect gelatin. Some products do use kosher gelatin.

Kosher Symbols (Hechsher)—this is the best way to know that what you bring won’t contain anything unclean. Look for a kosher symbol on the product, which usually consists of a stylized K. The common ones in our area are: Circle K, Circle U and Star-K. A plain K is not a valid symbol–companies just put that on there to make you think it’s kosher. To see a list of all the USA kosher symbols, click here.

Thank you for your consideration in these matters!
